The Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers advanced to the next round of the 2023 NBA playoffs with victories on Wednesday night. The Heat, who trailed by double-digits in the fourth quarter, rallied to defeat the Atlanta Hawks 116-105 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series. Bam Adebayo led the way for Miami with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Butler added 23 points. The Lakers, meanwhile, held off a late charge from the Minnesota Timberwolves to win 108-102 in overtime in Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series. Anthony Davis had 36 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers, while LeBron James added 28 points and 10 rebounds. The Heat and Lakers will both be back in action on Friday night, when they host Games 2 of their respective series. The Hawks will host the Heat at 7:30 p.m. ET, while the Timberwolves will host the Lakers at 9:30 p.m. ET.
