Remove Acrylic Nails: A Comprehensive Guide
Essential Equipment
Before embarking on this DIY project, gather the following tools:
- Nail pick or cuticle pusher
- Dental floss
- Electric nail filer or e-file
- Hand-held nail file
- Cotton balls
- Aluminum foil or nail wraps
- Nail remover or acetone
- Cuticle oil
Soaking Method
Step 1: Soak the Nails
- Saturate cotton balls with nail remover or acetone.
- Wrap the cotton balls around each nail and secure with aluminum foil or nail wraps.
- Let the nails soak for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Remove the Acrylic
- Once the acrylic has softened, use a nail pick or cuticle pusher to gently lift the edges of the acrylic away from the natural nail.
- Slide the dental floss between the acrylic and the natural nail and gently work it back and forth until the acrylic loosens and comes free.
- If any remaining acrylic or nail polish is left, use an electric nail filer to remove it. Follow up with a hand-held nail file to smooth the surface.
Clipping Method
Step 1: Trim the Length
- Avoid cutting your natural nails. Use an acrylic nail cutter or, if unavailable, carefully trim the acrylic nails.
Step 2: File Away the Acrylic
- Use an electric nail filer to file away the majority of the acrylic.
- Smooth the surface further with a hand-held nail file.
Finishing Touches
Step 1: Moisturize
- Apply cuticle oil to nourish the natural nails and cuticles.
